TBR Feature #15

Wednesday 3 August 2016

TBR Feature is the chance for me to, every Wednesday, pick one of my unread books and discuss it: why I picked it up, when I'll get round to reading it, if I'm still interested in it at all etc.

It by Stephen King

It is one of the books that has been on my shelf the longest - since Christmas of 2010, if I remember correctly. It was one of the first Stephen King books I asked for when I decided I wanted to delve into his works, as it's one of the most well known, and I thought this would make it easier for me reading it. However, It is also one of the longest, which is why I've put it off for so long.

Now, with close to twenty King books under my belt, I feel more ready to take it on. One of my goals coming in to 2016 was to get this beast finished, and I'd even planned on taking it away on holiday with me next week. I talked myself out of it, though, and decided that a holiday would be the perfect time to re-read A Game of Thrones.

I can't even say that I decided against it because of the length - as we all know George RR Martin is incapable of writing short A Song of Ice and Fire books. The simple truth is that, while I very much want to read It, I'm scared. Not intimidated in the way I am when facing long books or ones with heavy subject matter, I mean scared. It is about a clown, you know.

Have you read It?

  1. OMG this is such a coincidence because I literally just watched the move IT for the first time last night!! To be honest, I found it kind of slow but maybe the book is better?

    1. That's so weird! :O I'm hoping it won't drag too much, as it's close to 1400 pages. Although, I've seen a few of the films based on Stephen King books and I didn't think much to them (maybe because the're mostly from the 70s/80s/90s and don't have today's technology?) so chances are I'll like the book better!

  2. I haven't read this one either - though The Bestie recommends it. I think it's shorter than The Stand...??? Maybe. The Stand is over 1k pages, so I wouldn't be surprised. If it's longer, then I'm scared (without even opening the first page! >.<)

    1. This edition is about 1376 pages and I'm not sure how that compares to The Stand? The longest King book I've read is Needful Things at 933, so I think I'll be able to get through It... If I'm not terrified, that is! :P

Got a thought or an opinion? I'd love to hear it.
